Masvingo Rural District Council (RDC) has announced plans to complete several major infrastructure projects within the next three months in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision. After assuming office late last year, President Mnangagwa ordered line ministries to come up with 100-day plans for quick-win programmes that have an impact on people’s lives. Masvingo RDC chief executive officer Mr Martin Mubviro on Monday said the local authority resolved to rally behind President Mnangagwa’s clarion call to implement projects that transform the lives of people in the shortest possible time. The RDC has so far completed a $50 000 piped water project for resettled commercial farmers at Summerton Ranch.

‘’We also managed to construct classroom blocks at Harava Primary School in Ward 14 and a dip-tank in Mwedzi under Ward 30,” said Mr Mubviro. “We have also finished building Chikarudzo Market Stall in Masvingo South and two bridges along the Nemawuzhe-Manyeruke Road. ’We have also completed the maintenance and rehabilitation of 131 boreholes across the district to ease shortage of potable water.’’

Projects that are at various stages of completion include a waiting shelter for pregnant mothers at Gunikuni Clinic in the Mukosi resettlement area and repair of a classroom roof at Rambakutemwa Primary School in Murinye after it was damaged during a recent storm. Mr Mubviro expressed dismay at the failure by most resettled A2 farmers to pay their bills to council, which is battling diminishing revenue inflows.

Masvingo RDC plans to embark on a major road rehabilitation programme starting at Nemanwa Growth Point, which is the district’s commercial capital.
