The South African Government through its Department of Trade is bankrolling the master plan.

A team of professional engineers and experts have already started work on the master plan.
Masvingo mayor Alderman Femius Chakabuda, last Friday confirmed the R10 million grant.
Ald Chakabuda said council had already engaged experts comprising engineers to spearhead the crafting of the 10-year master plan for the city.

“We received a grant from the South African Government, which will be used to pay for our 10-year master plan that will soon be produced by a team of experts comprising engineers who will lead the exercise and the master plan will give direction in terms of future plans of the city for the next 10 years,” said Ald Chakabuda.

He said residents of Masvingo were going to input on the master plan.
“We are not going to impose to the people of Masvingo what we want to be in the master plan, the people will say what they expect and want to be contained in the master plan and council will only be co-ordinating the crafting of the plan.

“Otherwise everything else rests with the residents and other stakeholders,” said Ald Chakabuda.
Masvingo is Zimbabwe’s oldest town and has not renewed its master plan due to financial constraints for decades.
