Maphosa praises junior golfer

Golf-pic-genericZIMBABWE Junior Golf Association president Brian Maphosa has praised Kieren Vincent for excelling at the just-ended Junior Orange Bowl Championship at the Baltimore Golf Club in Miami, Florida, United States.

Maphosa, who travelled with the team, said they are happy to make a mark at the event which brought together several top junior players.

Vincent finished tied sixth at the prestigious tournament which had players from countries like the USA, Canada, Argentina, Chile, South Africa, France, among several others.

“We are excited about the performance of our juniors in 2014 in all our international assignments that we took part in.

“Kieren’s performance just caps the year very well.

“We looking forward to doing better in the New Year, especially at the Japan Junior Golf World Cup, where we participated this year for the first time after some years of absence,” said Maphosa.

Kieren shot 73, 68, 72, 70 for a total of 283. The tournament was won by Joaquin Niemann of Chile who shot 67, 71, 72 and 67 for a total of 277.

Stuart Krog faced challenges as he shot 72, 75, 74 and 77 to be tied last at number 33.

This contrasts to his first outing at the same tournament last year where he performed well.

The Zimbabwe junior team also successfully defended their Three Nations Junior Golf Challenge Trophy in Namibia during the past year.

Vincent was part of that Zimbabwean team which featured Mbongeni Maphosa, Jack Allard, Justin Kersten, David Amm and Krog. – www.herald.co.zw
