WORLD Boxing Council welterweight silver champion Charles Manyuchi says he is geared up for tomorrow’s international non-title fight against Deogratias Samwel in Lusaka, Zambia, as he intensifies his preparations for the voluntary title defence on September 30. The Zimbabwean boxer is in Zambia and working with his coaches at Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions in preparation for the September 30 fight. He is expected to face Frenchman Damien Martin.

But tomorrow he takes on Tanzania’s Deogratias Samwel in an international welterweight non-title fight that will go for eight rounds.

The fight is a warm-up to the WBC voluntary title defence and Manyuchi said the bout is just as important as any other he has had before.

“Every fight is important. Every boxer is dangerous because he signed a contract to win but I am ready for him.

“I love Zimbabwe and I will make it for my country.

“I believe I am above African boxers,” said Manyuchi.

The WBC welterweight champion warned his opponent to expect a tough encounter as he seeks a victory ahead of his title defence fight.

“As I have said, every boxer is dangerous but I am prepared. I have been training for him and he won’t succeed. I am looking forward to a victory,” said Manyuchi.

Manyuchi’s manager Chris Malunga recently said preparations were on track and they will be coming to Zimbabwe after tomorrow’s fight to market next month’s fight set for the Harare International Conference Centre.

“It’s just a warm-up match to keep him in shape.

“He is doing very well and he is ready for the fight.

“Immediately after the fight we will come to Zimbabwe to start marketing that fight,” said Malunga.

It’s the first time Manyuchi is going to fight at home and this may be the turning point for the sport in Zimbabwe that has faced a number of challenges in the past.

Manyuchi has fought for titles and succeeded outside Zimbabwe, making a name for himself when he became the WBC international welterweight champion in 2014 after beating Ghana’s Patrick Allotey in Zambia.

He went on to defend the title in November of the same year when he defeated Deivis Casseres in Zambia again.

Last year, he raised the country’s flag high when he retained his title against Gianluca Frezza in Italy.

In May he underlined his status as one of the best rising boxers on the African continent by beating Russia’s Dmitry Mikhaylenko to become the World Boxing Council welterweight silver champion.
