Manicaland ready for First Lady

Manicaland has stepped up preparations for a visit by First Lady Dr Amai Grace Mugabe to Mutambara Mission in Chimanimani on Thursday. This was revealed during yesterday’s Manicaland provincial coordinating committee (PCC) meeting held at Marrymount Teachers’ College.

The First Lady will address party supporters at Mutambara Mission before touring Cashel Valley Estates which comprises a vast farm that specialised in growing beans and processes the Cashel baked beans.

In her contribution at yesterday’s PCC meeting, Zanu-PF Women’s League national executive deputy secretary for Education Cde Letina Undenge said work was also underway at national level to make the visit a resounding success.

“We are looking forward to the visit by the First Lady to Cashel Valley. This is expected to ignite interest in the rehabilitation of Cashel Valley in line with our Zim-Asset blueprint. Currently, there are about 1 800 farmers whom we expect to meet with the First Lady to explain some of their challenges,” said Cde Undenge.

“We are happy that the venue where the First Lady will address people is being fixed and that tents have already been secured. The local leadership, traditional leaders and headmasters, are aware of the visit and have been very supportive of it,” she said.

In her update report during the meeting, Manicaland Women’s League chairperson Cde Happiness Nyakuedzwa said various committees had been set up to mobilise resources.

“After we got word that Dr Amai Mugabe was coming here, we sat down and came up with various committees to look into different areas such as transport, venue, protocol, logistics and information, among other areas,” said Cde Nyakuedzwa.

“We also drew a budget that had, among other things, 10 000 litres of fuel and we are happy that transport operator Cde Isau Mupfumi pledged to give us his buses for the event,” she said.

“We also came up with a plan on the foodstuffs we need. It is work in progress. We are waiting for guidance from the provincial leadership — the Minister of State as well as the acting party chairman, especially when it comes to sourcing of donations,” she said.

The Minister of State for Manicaland Affairs and Makoni South legislator, Cde Mandi Chimene, warned errant party members against using the First Lady’s visit to fight factional wars.
