MDC Renewal Team treasurer- general Mr Elton Mangoma, has reported an assault case at Rhodesville Police Station in Harare following clashes with the party’s provincial youth leader, Mr Believe Tevera, whose wife he allegedly snatched.

Mr Mangoma reported the case on Wednesday and the docket was later transferred to Highlands Police Station for further investigations.

Although police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba could not be reached for comment, sources yesterday said the docket was referred to Highlands since the incident occurred in Eastlea which is under the jurisdiction of Highlands Police Station.

Mr Tevera yesterday confirmed that some police officers handling the matter had called him for questioning.

“The police phoned me today (yesterday) and I told them that I will only be able to come tomorrow (today),” he said.

Efforts to get a comment from Mr Mangoma were fruitless yesterday as his mobile phone went unanswered.

MDC Renewal Team has since set up a committee to investigate reports that Mr Mangoma snatched Mr Tevera’s wife.

Mr Mangoma on Wednesday confirmed meeting Mr Tevera’s wife on three different occasions.

He, however, declined to disclose the purposes of the meetings, two of which took place at his Milton Park offices.

On Tuesday, thugs aligned to Mr Mangoma brutally attacked Mr Tevera and his two colleagues in Eastlea, Harare.

Mr Tevera and his colleagues — Messrs Pride Mukono and Makomborero Haruzivishe — had visited the MDC Renewal Team offices to petition the party leadership to investigate the matter.

The MDC Renewal Team was having a meeting at the party headquarters.

Sources said Mr Tevera entered the offices where he intended to hand over his letter of complaint to the party’s national chairman Mr Samuel Sipepa Nkomo.

Mr Nkomo had not yet arrived for the meeting and Mr Tevera handed over the letter to the party’s national organising secretary Mr Last Maengahama in Mr Mangoma’s presence.

It is reported that Mr Tevera asked Mr Mangoma why he had destroyed his marriage by taking away his wife, Yemurai Maravanyika, leaving his son without a mother to care for him.

Mr Mangoma reportedly shoved Mr Tevera who retaliated by pushing Mr Mangoma who allegedly fell on some glasses and got injured.

As Mr Tevera was leaving the offices, thugs loyal to Mr Mangoma pounced on him.

They also assaulted his companions.
