ZIMBABWE’S hopes of remaining in the Africa Gold Cup suffered a major blow when they were beaten by Tunisia but coach Cyprian “Super” Mandenge believes they still have a chance of avoiding relegation.

The team will be relegated if they fail to win their last game against Uganda and Tunisia win their game against Senegal. Mandenge believes they need to work hard for their last assignment if they entertain any hopes of remaining in the Group A1.

“I am very disappointed and I hope we need to change our attitude.

“We now have to work hard and win our next match against Uganda so that we remain in the Group.

“Tunisia came with a game plan and stuck to it, we have got people in the right positions but they are missing tackles.

“I do not know how to defend people like that, people have to be responsible, last week we talked about fatigue, what do we talk about this week?

“Defence is about attitude, put in the tackles and the guys were missing tackles — three tries were scored straight from guys running at us.

“At this level this is not acceptable,” he said. Zimbabwe was expected to do well against a team that had not won a single match but managed to beat only the Sables who now have a tough assignment against Uganda.

The Rugby Africa Gold Cup features Uganda, Namibia, Kenya, Senegal, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe. The competition is played on a round robin basis and the eventual winner is crowned Gold Cup champion and subsequently qualifies for the World Cup.
