Two bus drivers were killed, while 40 passengers were injured when a bus they were travelling in crashed into a haulage truck in Beitbridge on Saturday night.
Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the accident yesterday. “It is sad that two bus drivers of the cross-border Mandaza bus died when their bus rammed into a stationary vehicle in Beitbridge. The driver died on the spot and his co-driver died on admission at Beitbridge Hospital.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said some of the seriously injured passengers were taken to Gwanda Hospital.
She urged motorists to exercise caution as the country approaches the festive season.

“I am told the road has developed a lot of potholes and is increasingly becoming narrow due to damages especially on the road sides.
“I therefore encourage road users to exercise extreme caution to reduce accidents especially as the festive season is upon us,” she said.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba appealed to drivers to be alert and to place warning signs if their vehicles break down.
Despite being one of the country’s busiest roads, the Beitbridge-Harare Road is in bad shape.
