Man, wife attacked on way from night club

The alleged assailant, Milton Tshuma (35), of 256 Nguboyenja was yesterday arraigned before the courts for allegedly stabbing and robbing Mr Jasper Masunda and his wife, Ms Thokozile Dlomo.  His two suspected accomplices are still at large. Another case of supplying false information to a public office was also opened against Tshuma after he lied to the police that he lives at 637 in the same suburb.

Bulawayo magistrate, Mr Ndumo Masuku who presided over the matter, remanded Tshuma in custody to 17 February for plea recording. The State represented by Mr Admire Chikwayi alleges that last week on Saturday, Mr Masunda and his wife Ms Dlomo of 451 in Nguboyenja were walking home from Jika Jika Nightclub in Mzilikazi at about 11pm.

Tshuma, who was in the company of two other men, allegedly approached them wielding knives. Tshuma allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Mr Masunda twice on the cheek and mouth. Mr Masunda managed to free himself by pushing Tshuma away and fled from the scene leaving his wife who had been knocked down and was still lying on the ground, the court heard.  Tshuma and his alleged accomplices allegedly searched Ms Dlomo and took US$128, which was in her bra.

Mr Masunda who was a distance from the scene of the robbery saw three policemen who were on patrol and told them about the incident. He led the police to the scene where they found Ms Dlomo still lying on the ground and bleeding profusely. Mr Masunda described the assailants to the police who launched a manhunt and apprehended Tshuma and brought him to the scene of robbery where Mr Masunda positively identified him as the one who had stabbed him.

Tshuma allegedly provided the police with a false address. Further investigations by the police revealed that the address he provided was non-existent, leading to the police charging him with supplying false information to a public office. – Chronicle
