Man torches grandpa’s maize field

In a bizarre case, a man set his grandfather’s entire maize field ablaze following an undisclosed misunderstanding, the Harare Civil Court heard yesterday. Andrew Kandawasvika claimed his grandson, Jonathan, was also threatening to poison his well. Kandawasvika made the revelations while seeking a protection order against Jonathan whom he accused of breaching his peace.

“He is very violent and last month he burnt my entire maize field, which was ready for harvest after I had reprimanded him for his bad behaviour,” he said.

Kandawasvika told magistrate Mr Trevor Nyatsanza that Jonathan was treating him like a child.

“He verbally abuses me on top of his voice as if we are of the same age. We stay together and I am now living in fear because he is threatening to poison my well,” said.

Jonathan did not show up at the court.

Mr Nyatsanza granted the order in default, barring Jonathan from verbally or physically abusing Kandawasvika.

He ordered Jonathan to keep peace towards Kandawasvika at all times.
