Man takes legal aid body to task

Herald Reporter
A Bulawayo man, who alleged that he was fired from work after he refused to be a sentinel while his boss was having quality time with his girlfriend in the office, has filed a complaint with the Law Society of Zimbabwe against the Legal Resources Foundation.

Mr Bizeck Nzou is accusing the LRF of failing to render legal assistance, which he needed to prosecute his appeal against an arbitrator’s ruling upholding his dismissal.

In his letter to the LSZ dated February 5 2015, Mr Nzou accused the lawyers at the LRF of dereliction of duty.

He said they have caused him irreparable harm after they filed his appeal out of time to the Labour Court.

This, he said, emerged when Mr Nzou had requested to have his case transferred to Harare for hearing, claiming he was being unfairly treated in Bulawayo.

Mbidzo, Muchadehama and Makoni law firm, now acting for Mr Nzou, had written to the Labour Court in Harare requesting the registrar of the court to facilitate the transfer of the case to Harare.

But the Labour Court Registrar Mrs Faith Mushure wrote to the lawyers advising them that there was nothing to transfer from Bulawayo to Harare because no appeal was filed with the former’s court.

Mr Nzou was allegedly fired from Springbrake Services (Pvt) Limited where he worked as an internal guard for 12 years.

He said after being fired, his goods were removed from the company premises.

Mr Nzou claims to have been forced into a vehicle and dumped in a bush along Victoria Falls Road.

Mr Nzou was allegedly fired by his boss Pelhams Shahida who had asked him to stand guard while he was flirting with his girlfriend at the company premises.

tuated at No. 16 Liverpool Road, Belmont in Bulawayo.

He challenged the decision to fire him before an arbitrator identified as Mr S Mutare who dismissed the case and indicated that there was no contract of employment between the two parties.

He then sought the assistance of the LRF to appeal against the ruling of the arbitrator.
