A 54-year-old Seke man allegedly raped his 15-year-old niece and infected her with HIV after she was brought to his house to take care of his ailing wife, who later died, the court heard. The man was not asked to plead to rape and deliberate transmission charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mrs Renika Dzikiti.

He was remanded in custody to October 16. The prosecutor Mr Norman Koropi told the court that sometime in December last year, the minor went to stay with her ailing aunt and the man. Shortly, the aunt was taken away by her church members, leaving the husband with the minor. It is alleged that when he returned from church to see his wife, the man went into the minor’s bedroom.

He allegedly sat on the bed and started fondling her. breasts trying to undress her, but she resisted. The man allegedly proceeded to his bedroom. On another day last year, the man allegedly came back from visiting his sick wife and proceeded to the minor’s room, using the same method and raped her. The girl cried but no one came to her rescue.

Further allegations are that, the man would continuously force himself on the girl. The girl informed her other aunt about the abuse after she discovered that the girl had some warts on her private parts. When she was asked about the warts on her private parts, the girl narrated her ordeal leading to the man’s arrest.
