An Epworth man is being charged for murder after he reportedly fatally assaulted his wife’s former husband who had visited his sick child.
Consumed by jealousy, Elifigio Macheka (32) struck the now deceased Shelton Tungwarara with an iron bar.
The incident occurred in March 2011 in Epworth but Macheka had been on the run and was only brought to court yesterday.
Macheka, who was arrested in Nyanga, appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei charged with murder.

Mr Ndirowei remanded him in custody to July 10 for routine remand and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court due to the seriousness of the offence.
Appearing for the State, Miss Sharon Mashavira alleged that on March 11 Tungwarara went to Macheka’s house to see his ailing child since his former wife was now married to Macheka.

It is the State’s case that Tungwarara’s visit did not go down well with Macheka who then confronted him.
An altercation ensued, which led to a fistfight, the court heard.

Macheka took an iron bar and struck Tungwarara several times all over his body, seriously injuring him.
The court further heard that Tungwarara managed to escape from the house bleeding profusely.

He later collapsed and was rushed to hospital where he later died.
Meanwhile, a cheating Harare man destroyed a family wardrobe and window panes during a scuffle with his girlfriend while his wife was away in the rural areas, a Harare magistrate heard on Monday.

Jesca Munanga claimed her husband’s girlfriend Maggy Matungana was in the habit of physically and verbally abusing her.
This was revealed at the Harare Civil Court where Munanga was seeking a peace order against Matungana.

Magistrate Ms Babra Masinire granted the peace order sought which barred Matungana from physically or verbally abusing Munanga.
