A Beitbridge man killed his girlfriend for allegedly infecting him with HIV and later committed suicide.
Beitbridge residents were last week shocked following the discovery of the body of a 29-year-old woman allegedly murdered by her boyfriend only identified as Tafadzwa.Tafadzwa left a note explaining he killed Lorraine after discovering she had infected him with HIV.

Residents fetching firewood discovered Tafadzwa’s body and the suicide note. Lorraine’s body was discovered in a room at Number 311 Arcacia Drive half naked, with the face and the head badly swollen.

There are two tenants and a pre-school at the house.

Police suspected that the woman was killed between Tuesday and Wednesday night.

“We found the body of the woman after getting a suicide note and keys to the room from the boyfriend’s pockets,” said one of the police officers who attended the scene.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele said he was yet to get details about the incident.

Beitbridge’s Ward One councillor Mr Max Chikova described the incident as horrific.

“This is very sad. Our hearts are very heavy and I want to urge members of the community to consider sharing their problems with community or church leaders or councillors rather than resorting to violence,” he said.

Mr Chikova said they would soon embark on awareness campaigns to educate people on the effects of domestic violence.
