Man killed over kachasu

Three people have appeared in court for fatally assaulting their customer over a $6 payment for kachasu, an illicit brew.

Anna Nelson (59), Naison Nelson (39) and Brian Fazile (38) were facing murder charges when they appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe.

They were remanded in custody to July 22 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Allegations are that sometime in January this year, Obey Marange took kachasu brew worth $6 from Nelson who runs a shebeen in Overspill, Epworth.

The court heard that Marange failed to pay for the kachasu by an unknown date in May when he visited Nelson, who asked him for her money.

It is alleged that Marange told Nelson that he had no money and opted to give her a pair of old shoes, which were torn.

The court heard that this infuriated Nelson who immediately called her son and his friend, Fazile, and they teamed up to assault Marange on the head with an unknown blunt object.

It is the State’s case that Marange sustained internal injuries on the head.

It is alleged that upon realising that Marange’s life was in danger, Fazile told Marange’s father who then rushed him to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he died the following day.
