A shebeen owner and his colleague allegedly killed a reveller at the shebeen over a $2 debt.
Joseph Mapa (27) and Tatenda Foot (28), both from Waterfalls, Harare, reportedly used a brick and a club to fatally assault the man.The pair yesterday appeared in court before magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe charged with murder.

They were remanded in custody to April 27 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Mrs Idah Maromo alleged that on April 11, Mapa and Foot were at Mapa’s shebeen when an argument arose between the now deceased’s brother and Mapa over a $2 debt.

The now deceased joined the altercation in a bid to help his brother, the court heard.

Mapa, it is alleged, then picked up a brick and struck the now deceased on the head and he fell on the ground.

Foot allegedly then took a club and assaulted the man all over his body while he was lying down leading to his death.

Meanwhile, a commuter omnibus conductor allegedly offered a lift to a six-year-old school girl and took her to an unknown location where he raped her.

Shadreck Zviripayi (20) from Epworth is reported to have left the driver of the kombi behind and offered the victim – a Grade One pupil who was coming from school -a lift in Queensdale.

Zviripayi, who is employed at Wadawarova Transport, yesterday appeared in court before Mr Mahwe charged with rape.

Mr Mahwe remanded him in custody to April 28 after the State led by Mrs Idah Maromo opposed bail.

Zviripayi was advised to approach the High Court for bail due to the gravity of his offence.

He is being represented by Mr John Mugoko of Gunje and Chasakara Law Firm.

It is the State’s case that on March 31, the minor was coming from school when she boarded a kombi which was being driven by Zviripayi.

After all the other passengers had dropped off, Zviripayi is said to have taken the victim to an unknown house where he had anal sex with her, the court heard.

After the act, Zviripayi allegedly dropped the minor near her house and ordered her not to tell anyone. He then sped off.

The victim did not disclose the rape to anyone until she developed some sores on her back prompting her mother to question her.

She then opened up and police investigations led to Zviripayi’s arrest.

In a separate case, an unlicensed 22-year-old kombi driver yesterday appeared in court on allegations of hitting two pedestrians and killing one of them on the spot.

Tozamile Masore then lost control of the vehicle and was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle thereby seriously injuring seven passengers who were in the other vehicle – a Nissan Serena.

Masore yesterday appeared in court before the same magistrate facing two counts of culpable homicide and driving without a licence.

He was remanded in custody to today for bail ruling.

According to the State, Masore was driving a Toyota Hiace along Rotten Row when he hit two pedestrians.

One of them died on the spot while the other was seriously injured.

After the incident, Masore lost control of the vehicle and collided with another vehicle.

Seven passengers were seriously injured, the court heard.
