Man jailed for raping daughter

Court Reporter
A 53-year-old Harare man has been arrested and brought to court on allegations of raping his Form Four daughter.

The girl’s parents are divorced.

The State alleges the girl was a virgin before the rape and that the father is a soldier.

She woke up one midnight to find her father raping her, the court heard.

The father appeared before magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe charged with rape on Friday last week.

He was remanded in custody to May 7 when his trial is expected to start.

Prosecutor Mrs Idah Mateke-Maromo opposed bail.

Mr Mahwe advised the suspected rapist to seek bail at the High Court.

Mrs Maromo alleged that on April 12 around 12 midnight, the 18-year-old girl was sleeping in her bedroom together with her 10-year-old sister.

Prosecution alleges the girl did not lock the bedroom door as the father had confiscated the keys.

The father went into his daughter’s room and raped her.

She screamed for help alerting her young sister.

The father, who was half dressed, ran back to his bedroom.

The following morning, the State alleges, the victim woke up and discovered that her blankets were soaked in blood. She reportedly went to bath and felt pain on her privates.

The father threatened the daughter with unspecified action if she reported the matter to anyone.

The girl reported the abuse to a pastor, who in turn alerted the victim’s mother and the case was reported to the police.
