A 35-year-old Mbare man who targeted deserted homes to steal electrical gadgets was last week sentenced to four years and eight months in prison for unlawful entry.

Lameck Motive Marovagondo of Block 2 C20 Mashawasha Flats appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Reward Kwenda who sentenced him to six years and four months in prison for the three counts and suspended 18 months on condition of good behaviour.

He further suspended two months of the sentence on condition of restitution.

Marovagondo will serve an effective jail term of four years and eight months.

In assessing sentence, Mr Kwenda said the offence of unlawful entry had become prevalent and a custodial sentence would deter would-be offenders.

Facts are that in all the three counts, Marovagondo used the same tactic to gain entry into the houses he stole from.

Marovagondo was arrested after he was implicated by people he sold the stolen property.

The total value of the property he stole was $1 205 and property worth $650 was recovered.
