A Harare man is facing culpable homicide charges after allegedly killing his wife by dragging her with his truck along the road following a domestic dispute.
Acting police spokesperson for Harare Province Assistant Inspector Tarirai Dube confirmed the incident.
“We are investigating a case in which Afarashe Gambiza (48) allegedly dragged his wife with a GWM pick-up along High Glen Road on Independence Day,” she said.
It is alleged that Gambiza visited his wife Felistus Choruwa (32) in Budiriro 3 where she was now residing since the two no longer stayed together.

Asst Insp Dube said a dispute ensued between the two and Gambiza left the house heading to his truck that was parked along High Glen Road facing northwards. Choruwa followed him to the vehicle carrying their three-month-old child on her back but Gambiza started his vehicle.

Asst Insp Dube said Choruwa rushed to open the passenger door of the vehicle but Gambiza took off at high speed with his wife clinging onto the door and eventually dragged her along the tarmac for over 100 metres before being blocked by other motorists.

Choruwa sustained a fractured arm and serious head and body injuries and was rushed to Harare Central Hospital together with her baby for treatment.
She was, however, pronounced dead on admission while her baby was treated and discharged.

Gambiza was arrested at the scene and his vehicle was impounded and taken to Southerton Police Station as investigations continue.
Police have urged all those involved in domestic disputes to seek professional counselling to avoid such situations.
