Dereck Majaivana, son of yesteryear musician Lovemore Majaivana, seeks to revive his father’s career and launches his first album “Bayamemeza” at City Sports Bar tonight. Lovemore last released an album in 2001 before relocating to the United States of America in the same year. In an interview, the musician’s first son said he had the green light from his father to launch his career.

“When I left my job in 2003 I wanted to launch my career then but my father told me that he wanted to continue with music until last year when he gave me the green light,” he said.

He said he decided to do a rendition of his father’s hit song “Umoya Wami” to take fans down the memory lane.
“My father had created his own base and it explains why I decided to do rendition of the song that became one of the country’s favourites,” he said.

Other songs that will feature on the album are “Angeke Ngivume”, “Bayamemeza”, “Kunzima Kulindawo”, “Tendele” and “Intandane”.
The 34-year-old musician said he was determined to fit in his father’s shoes.

“That is the reason why I have decided to continue with the name of my father’s band, Zulu,” he said.
Albert Nyati is expected to grace the launch together with Progress Chipfumo and the notorious musician Jacob “Munotidako” Moyana.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director Elvas Mari will be the guest of honour with a number of promoters expected to attend the event.
The album was recorded at Diamond Studios and the studio’s artistes manager John Muroyi praising the musician for working hard. “I once worked with his father while I was in Bulawayo and what I can say is he is in the right direction. He is a hard worker” he said.

Organisers of the event said they were looking forward to a professional album launch. “We have in the past seen artistes failing to be punctual but it will be different for this launch because it has to end at 10pm,” said the organisers.
