death of their children.
Zvenyika Mahachi, son to the late Defence Minister and former Zanu-PF secretary for the commissariat Moven Mahachi died of heart failure on Tuesday.
Sandra Nyanhongo, daughter to Energy and Power Development deputy minister who is also Member of Parliament for Harare South, Cde Hubert Nyanhongo died in a car accident on the same day.
Cde Shamu, who is also Zanu-PF secretary for the commissariat said he learnt of the death of the two with shock and sadness. “Zvenyika’s passing away is a terrible blow to the Mahachi family which has lost one of their remaining trusted and loyal pillars of strength who was instrumental in assisting in caring for the family and administration of its affairs,” he said.
Zvenyika died of heart failure while attending a wedding of a family worker at the Mahachi farm in Nyanga. His wife and four children survive him.
He will be buried at Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare today.
The minister said news of the death of Sandra was shattering in that she was just a teenager doing Lower 6 at Vainona High School.
“She is one of the many young bright prospects of the country who have cruelly met their fate due to careless driving on the country’s roads. The family has suffered a debilitating and irreparable blow because of someone who was not only breaking the law by driving an unregistered vehicle, but was also driving carelessly.”
He said the teenager’s death was a tragic reminder to the Government to take stern measures to curb the unnecessary loss of life on the country’s roads.
Sandra will be buried at Nyanhongo rural home in Nyanga’s Nyadowa Village today.
Minister Shamu also wished Sandra’s sister, Sihle, who was injured in the accident and is at Avenues Clinic, speedy recovery.
