Machete-wielding man runs amok

A Zimunya man, Norman Chimbuya (34), who was once arrested on murder charges, recently went berserk after a beer drinking spree and started threatening to kill close family members with a machete.

Chimbuya held the family members captive in their house by blocking the door before threatening to kill them with the machete he was brandishing.

He pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe last week.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted over the matter. The court was told that around the time between 1700 hours and 1730 hours on September 3, 2017 in Temberere Village in Zimunya, the accused Norman was drunk and went to 58-year-old Aquira Mazamba’s homestead, which is next-door to his and blocked the door holding a machete.

He started threatening Mazamba with a machete and told her that he was surely going to kill her. He then left her and went for Courage Chimbuya (18), whom he also threatened to kill with the same weapon.
