Musicians Alick Macheso and Leonard Zhakata gave fans a memorable joint show at the Platinum Club (formerly Pick and Save) in Mutare last Friday.

Zhakata was the first to take to the stage and mesmerised fans with his hit songs including “Mugove” and “Hupenyu Mutoro” among others.

His dancers displayed well choreographed moves, leaving fans clamouring for more.

He was joined on stage by Macheso for the song “Mugove” much to the delight of the fans.

Zhakata said he was happy to be sharing the stage with Macheso as he was one of the best musicians to emerge from this country.

“As musicians we always learn from each other and for us to share the stage is a great experience that brings fresh dimensions not only to the fans but also to us,” he said.

Macheso was the last performer of the night sampling songs from his upcoming album.

He excited many when he gave a solo act in the last minutes of the show.

The musician played the lead guitar for close to 30 minutes, leaving fans stunned as other band members had already packed their instruments.

The show was organised by Zanu-PF Chikanga-Dangamvura parliamentary candidate Esau Mupfumi who said the event was a bonus for the voters.

Mupfumi promised music lovers that if he wins the seat, he would work hard to have professionalism in the arts sector.

“Arts industry needs a professional approach for it to grow. If the people vote for me I will make sure that some issues like professionalism in arts industry are addressed.

“Issues like double booking and the relationship between promoters and musicians need to be discussed in the august house,” he said.

He said Mutare has a number of musicians who can lead to the development of the tourism industry in the area.

“I am waiting for the elections, but my vision is to have our musicians being ambassadors of our tourist attractions here,” he said.
