Sharon Macheso

Brenda Phiri Lifestyle Reporter—
Little is known about Sharon, the eldest daughter of Sungura king pin Alec Macheso, but right now, she feels like the luckiest girl in the land. Those who caught wind of her customary marriage in February are aware that she and fiancé Kudakwashe Munetsi will officially tie the knot on August 11. It is barely two weeks from now and her drastic loss of weight gives us an idea of what she has been up to.

The bride to be has been hands on and following through every detail as the countdown to the wedding that will take place at her God parents’ (Oliver and Daisy Mtukudzi) venue, Pakare Paye in Norton.

Just like any other girl, she wants her big day to be nothing short of magic. In her words, it has to be perfect.
“I have been running around and putting things together and it has been exhausting. I am grateful for the help that I have been getting from both family and friends on other things. I am confident it will be perfect,” she said.

In recent weeks, Sharon has started practising Yoga, in order to keep herself sane and relaxed.
A number of high profile weddings have taken place this year and she knows that all eyes are on hers too.
Bona and Simba Chikore’s wedding in March remains the talk of town for all the glitz and glam.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West also lived up to the hype with Kim’s haute couture creation by the couple’s close friend and Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci.

While she has chosen not to copy from others, Sharon said she was inspired to make hers unique too.
“The theme of my wedding is modern couture. The theme colours are purple and black for the church reception and then red and black for the Pakare Paye reception,” she said.

She added that the theme was inspired by her love for fashion. One of her dreams is to become a fashion designer and at this point her creative juices are being diverted to the wedding planning.

“I love fashion and I love designing as well, which explains my wedding theme,” she said.
Speaking about her dresses, Sharon joked about having 10 of them but later narrowed it down to two.

One of them was designed by Vera Wang, a renowned designer based in New York City.
Wang is known for her wide range of haute couture bridesmaid gowns and wedding gown collections.

“I bought the dress in the United Kingdom. It is a white strapless bow gown. I will wear it for the church reception that will take place at St Francis Roman Catholic Church in Waterfalls and change into the other one later on,” she said.

The second dress is much shorter and is figure hugging. The groom and the rest of the bridal team will be equally stunning with two different outfits for the day.
The maid of honour, Sihle Nyanhongo, the daughter of politician Hubert Nyanhongo will head the bridal team. The bridal party will be comprised of nine couples drawn up from her childhood associates.

“The bridesmaids will be in open back purple dresses that were designed by Tunga’s Designs for the church reception. They will change into short red and black dresses. There are slim fit suits for guys who will change from white shirts to red ones at the venue.

On the entertainment front, her father’s friend in the music business, Suluman Chimbetu will be performing. A professional pianist has been booked to perform for the 600 high profile guests that Sharon refused to name.

To cap the wedding, Sharon says she would have loved to take the Tiwa savage route (Nigerian songstress who wed in Dubai) and visit the United Arab Emirates.
“I love Dubai and I have been there a few times. I have not ruled out making it my honeymoon destination although we are still deciding between Zanzibar and the Seychelles,” she said.

After putting a ring on the finger, her husband is likely to take Sharon to South Africa where he is based.
“I will always be a Macheso although I am part of the Munesti family,” she said.
Red and black happens to be her better half’s favourite colours and they were sure to include it on the theme colours.

His close friend and relative from childhood David Chinamhora is the best man.
“All the suits are Giorgio Armani and they were ordered from China. You know guys are not so much into wedding planning but he has been playing a big role in supporting me emotionally and financially from his base in Cape Town,” added Sharon.
