Sungura ace Alick Macheso has decided to hire veteran music producer Bothwell Nyamondera for his upcoming album. Nyamhondera is returning home to work for Diamond Studios.Speaking on the sidelines of the Coca-Cola prize-giving ceremony for the top 2013 songs in Graniteside on Friday, Macheso said he has worked with the producer well in the past years and their relationship was good.

“I was glad to hear that a local recording stable has hired his services and I just took it as an opportunity to let him come and work with me on a freelance basis on my next project,” said Macheso.

The producer – who is the man behind the success stories of many top musicians in the country, chief among them Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria and the late Tongai Moyo, among others whom he recorded with during his tenure at Gramma Records — has been over the years missing in action in Zimbabwe while he was doing odd jobs in the United Kingdom.

Diamond Studios boss Steady Munyanyi said he was not at liberty to divulge  if their contract allows Nyamondera to work with other artistes as a freelancer.

“It sounds unprofessional for me to discuss the contract in the public domain but what I can say is Nyamondera is coming to work with us,” said Munyanyi.

Asked if they might lure Macheso to their studio Munyanyi said the musician was a great artiste who might not like a binding contract.

“Obviously at his stage he might be setting up a recording studio and there is no way we can give such a big artist a binding contract but he is an artist everyone would want to work with,” said Munyanyi.
