IN HAPPIER TIMES . . . Sungura ace Alick Macheso and his estranged wife Tafadzwa Mapako

Sungura ace Alick Macheso’s four-year marriage to Tafadzwa Mapako has finally collapsed following Wednesday’s agreement between the parties on conditions of separation.
Macheso collected his belongings from Tafadzwa’s house on Thursday evening, putting the final nail on the coffin of a marriage that was well-publicised when the musician took Tafadzwa as his second wife.

The parties agreed that Macheso would pay interim maintenance pending paternity tests for their two children to be done soon.

Although Macheso’s lawyer Norman Mugiya of Mugiya and Macharaga could not confirm the latest development, documents seen by The Herald show that Macheso would pay Tafadzwa $200 per week, $350 per month for rentals and $100 for medicals.

The parties also agreed to separate and not live as husband and wife with Tafadzwa retaining custody of the two minor children pending paternity tests.

A source close to the developments said Macheso had taken long to leave Tafadzwa when the two were no longer getting along because he received threats from unknown people who warned him against divorce.

“Sometimes he would be told that Tafadzwa is a relative to powerful politicians and would receive calls from people that claimed to be senior state security personnel. He was told he would die if he messed up,” said the source.

David Ngwerume of Hamunakwadi and Nyandoro Law Chambers representing Tafadzwa refused to shed light on the matter.

“I don’t have instructions to talk to the press about my client’s private life,” said Ngwerume.

Recently Macheso told The Herald that he was just human and those problems would soon fade away.

“I am just human, dai zvisina kuitika kwandiri zvaizoitika kunani (if it had not happened to me who else could have faced it)? People are there to destroy but one has to be strong enough as it is part of life.

“Problems are there but they will soon fade away.

“If a driver is on his work and gets stung by a wasp he should not panic. Panicking can lead to an accident, but if the driver keeps on concentrating the wasp will eventually fly away. I cannot say much but my lawyer knows the truth,” he said.
