Sungura ace Alick Macheso last week acquired studio equipment from Washington DC in America and has set a new studio at his Aquatic Complex offices it has emerged.

A source close to the development said the musician got assistance from the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society to get the equipment shipped into the country.

He added that the musician forked out amount close to $20 000 for the purchase and transportation of the equipment.

These include a Digidesign Rack 003 mixer, a Mac Pro PC, as well as anti-piracy software among the usual recording studio equipment.

Two producers from a local recording stable have been assisting him in setting the studio.

“Jabulani Ndlovu and Bothwell Nyamondera are the two producers assisting him to install some software and advising on the general set-up of the studio,” he said.

With the studio now in place the Sungura King is presumably set to record his much awaited new album.

“Macheso is now recording his new album because they have managed to set the studio,” the source said.

Macheso confirmed the development but said there were still some administrative issues to be sorted out before the studio becomes functional.

“The studio is now ready but I am still working on a number of areas to have it registered so that other musicians can freely come to record,” he said.

It was not clear whether the musician would engage any or both of the two producers to work for the studio or on the coming album.

Turning to recording, the musician said all was now in place and he would soon drop the new album.

Following the closure of Last Power Media, a studio co-owned by the musician and Laston Murerwa, Macheso has not recorded any album with reports suggesting that he was stuck with the old equipment they had.

After announcing his forthcoming album some time ago Macheso did not bring it out leading to speculation that he was waiting until he had set up his own stable.
