Sungura music icons Alick Macheso and Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zakaria will meet again for one of their popular “reunion” gigs set for Club Odyssey in Kadoma this Saturday.

The former Khiama Boys buddies have done a number of shows to prove that there is no bad blood between them since they parted ways almost two decades ago.

Macheso, or Extrabasso as he is fondly called by his legion of fans owing to his exceptional bass guitar-strumming skills, parted ways with Zakaria to start his solo career fronting Orchestra Mberikwazvo in a move that saw him launching a successful music career that catapulted him to the top of the local music scene.

While they were still an item at the Khiama Boys, both Macheso and Zakaria forged a formidable combination that was one of the best in the country, and although Madzibaba was the band leader, Macheso’s input into the group could not go unnoticed.

Such fond memories are set to be revived when the sungura superstars come together for the gig at one of Kadoma’s most popular entertainment joints, Club Odyssey.

“These are two doyens of Zimbabwean sungura music and by combining forces, they are doing it in the true spirit of sending a positive signal to their fans that they share warm and cordial relations, despite what other people might want to believe.

“It is also an opportunity for their fans to relive the good old days when the guys were still together and released some of the good hits that are still people’s favourites today,” said disc jockey Dee Nosh, one of the co-coordinators of the show.

The title of Macheso’s last album “Kwatakabva Mitunhu – Kure Kwekure”, which he released in 2012, will act as the theme title of the gig and as it aptly says, both artistes have come a long way to be where they are today.

Madzibaba, on the other hand, will do justice to his 26th album “Rumbidzo” which he released last year. The album carries gems in the mould of some of his hits that made him one of the most sought-after musicians in the land.

Tracks like “Mwari Anogona”, “Pane Nyaya”, “Wakakodzera” and “Rudo Runokosha” among others all promise to send fans on their feet while the golden classics are also a sure-fire drawcard at the show.
