Sungura musician Alick Macheso celebrates the success of his new album “Tsoka Dzerwendo” tonight at Private Lounge ahead of several charity shows lined up outside the capital courtesy of the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society. The musician’s manager said they were happy to celebrate with their fans tonight as well as having several gigs for charity.“It will be exciting as we celebrate the success of our new album ‘Tsoka Dzerwendo’. It will be a night to remember because we have something exciting for our fans,” he said.

In an interview last night, show co-ordinator — Joe Mentro of Divine Assignments — said: “We are ready for the show on when Macheso meets fans during the first leg of the Thank You Gig series at our venue (Private Lounge).

“The response from fans has been overwhelming and all the artistes on the line-up comprising Progress Chipfumo, Beverly Sibanda and Lady Storm aka Eriza will be in charge. Macheso is an amazing artiste who has been in the game for a while and he deserves to be presented on stage with majesty.”

Added Mentro: “Since it’s a midweek show, gates will be opened around 7pm and a mixed bag of entertainment is guaranteed from our dancers, artistes and DJs.

“This show, which coincides with the launch of the Executive Sungura Nite sessions, is a bit special as it brings together Harare’s well-heeled under one roof.”

A number of surprise guest artistes will also provide cover at the event where resident wheel-spinners will be on standby. Macheso’s camp has since dedicated this show to loyal fans who have rallied before him over the years, especially during the four-year album drought spell.

Macheso’s manager said together with ZRCS they will be having live performances outside Harare with all the proceeds channelled to charity.

“Macheso is a humanitarian ambassador and there is also need to assist the need. Yes we celebrate the success of the album but we need also to share with those are in need,” he said.

The charity gigs will be held in Siakobu Business Centre Kariba, DDF Shipping Services in Binga and Muzarabani Shopping Centre. Zimbabwe Red Cross Society Secretary General Maxwell Phiri said these shows are part of the society’s local resource mobilisation efforts given the widespread humanitarian challenges

“While we value the support we get from the international community, local companies and other individual philanthropists, competing humanitarian needs continue outweighing available resources hence the need for such prudence to cushion ourselves.

“The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society is about service and alleviating humanitarian needs and we will continue

reinventing ourselves in tune with obtaining trends so that we remain relevant in the local humanitarian space,” he said.

Phiri said they were encouraged by the selflessness exhibited by their Humanitarian Ambassador who dedicated his time and energy towards the Red Cross humanitarian cause

“It has been highly successful and mutually beneficial relationship and it is our hope that we have as many Zimbabweans rising to the clarion humanitarian call. For the three shows we have put everything in place for successful and incident free events and want to thank the local authorities and Government for supporting us through availing venues for this noble initiative,” he said.
