Macheso bounces back

Sungura ace Alick Macheso is set to stage his first show after his annual break when he shares the stage with Sulumani Chimbetu at Pamuzinda Highway Escape tonight. Macheso took a break soon after New Year’s Day.A lot has been penned about Chimbetu and Macheso with the reports suggesting the two are at loggerheads.

The feud is said to have started when Sulu lured Macheso’s key band members Francis Dhaka, Noel Nyazanda and Elton Muropa, a move that allegedly created tension between these two artists.

Macheso uttered unfriendly words against Sulu at his live shows and the two traded accusations for sometime. Yesterday Macheso’s manager, William Tsandukwa, said they have no beef with any artist and they will be sharing stage with the dendera musician to show that they are not at war.

“We have not had such a show where we come head-to-head with Sulu since people started talking about the feud. We have performed at some occasions that featured many musicians but we did not get a chance to show people that there is no bad blood between us. We want music lovers to know that Macheso is not fighting any musician,” said Tsandukwa.

Sulu’s publicist, Joe Nyamungoma, shared the same sentiments.

“Macheso is a brand and we respect him. People may say a lot but we work with him on different occasions,” said Nyamungoma.

Show organiser Josh Hozheri said they have decided to put the musicians together to show oneness in the industry.

“As promoters we are affected when tensions rise among musicians so we have decided to bring these two together to ensure they work together to entertain the nation,” he said.

Munya Matarutse and Mbare dancehall singer Killer T will be the supporting act at the show.
