Look good despite wet weather Yellow is a great colour for the rains

Nothing waters down a good day like a rainy day. Yes, the heavens have opened up and for the past few weeks, the country has been blessed with good rains. The bad part is that we still have to go to work, school, college or continue with the business of the day. Despite the wet weather you definitely still have to look good.

Someone once said, an easy way to stand out from the crowd on the streets is to check the daily weather forecast in the morning, be prepared and have a good piece of rain wear.

A big part of being “stylish” is dressing appropriate for the situation, and the weather. Yes, rainy days are here, but don’t let anything from a downpour to a light drizzle send your morning dressing routine into a tailspin.

While we prefer bundling up and staying in on a rainy day, work and general life routines demand that we must brave the wet weather and attend to our daily chores.

That being said, a downpour or drizzle is no excuse to look unkempt or unstylish!

Here are some of must-have wardrobe pieces that can weather any storm.

Coated jeans

They have the look and feel of stretch leather, but the durability of good old denim.

A shiny pair of dark blue, black, green, or maroon coated jeans will look just as chic as leather leggings and can withstand a splash or sprinkle on a rainy day.

A good pair will keep their shape, and tuck nicely into a pair of rain boots.

Trench coat

A crisp-fitting trench coat is one of our all-time favourite outerwear pieces with a function best suited for wet weather.

Opt for a camel, grey, or black version with fabric that will repel water.

It should be roomy enough to fit over a sweater or blazer, but sized appropriately enough to not look like it was borrowed from your dad.

Rainboots

When buying a pair of serious rubber rain boots, invest in a classic colour — black, hunter green, navy, or even yellow or orange — and walk confidently through puddles and mud.

Your boots should be flat and knee high, and will perfectly balance the volume of your rain-friendly outerwear.

The Hat

A clever wide-brimmed hat can not only tame your unmanageable rainy day hair, but also shield you from the spray. Don’t choose one in a precious or delicate material, but rather a fabric that can withstand a bit of wear.

Stylish Umbrella

Since the world can be a bit drab on such days, choose an umbrella that is bright and irreverent. A zigzag, striped, or embellished umbrella can add the right amount of optimism to your look and help stand out in a sea of boring black ones.

The colour yellow

Yellow has been a go-to colour for rain wear for as long as I can remember. I think it may be due to a subconscious yearning for sunshine. Regardless of its origin, it just works.

The problem is, I think a lot of men prematurely out-grow wearing the classic yellow parka.

On the street there seem to be a lot of children wearing them, but rarely an adult — which makes it so refreshing to see a man in a bright, rubberised slicker.

It’s a great, “safe” way to wear a bold colour in an off-summer casual outfit.

Not to mention that a rubberised cotton is completely impermeable.

Hope the guide will help you as the meteorological department said the wet weather is still with us for a long time.

Back to reality, in fashion news, the British Council, British Fashion Council (BFC) and Mercedes-Benz are pleased to announce that collectively they will present work by emerging fashion designers from 25 countries for the International Fashion Showcase (IFS) 2017 when it returns to Somerset House for a second year in February.
