Liverpool will sell Sterling

LONDON. — Liverpool contract rebel Raheem Sterling WILL be sold if any interested club comes up with a £50 million offer.

Despite the club publicly insisting that the 20-year-old England player is staying put Sunday Express Sport has been told that a deal will reluctantly be done for the right money.

The figure being mentioned within Anfield is £50 million — one which would make interested parties like Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United probably think twice.

But if anyone is prepared to pay over the odds then Sterling will be on his way leaving Liverpool with another big hole to fill.

Liverpool know that Sterling has now driven a huge wedge between him and many of the fans — one which would be hard to remove.

Last summer they allowed Luis Suarez to join Barcelona and in many observers’ eyes squandered the money on poor buys.

This time manager Brendan Rodgers knows he and the Anfield transfer committee have to do better. Rodgers’ future depends on it. But two players are already on their way to Merseyside in the summer, Manchester City’s own contract rebel James Milner and Burnley striker Danny Ings.

Milner has told friends he has opted for Liverpool ahead of Arsenal while Ings believes Anfield is a better playing proposition than the two Manchester clubs.

Meanwhile, Manchester City will offer Liverpool Stevan Jovetic plus cash in a £45 million package for Sterling.

But City will still face a fight to prise the England forward away from Anfield to the Etihad as Arsenal have emerged as strong rivals.

Sterling would love to return to London – and Arsenal in particular.

He was brought up in London after moving there from Jamaica when he was seven.

City, though, are hoping £15 million-valued Jovetic plus another £30 million will see Liverpool give up their fight to keep Sterling, 20.

It’s understood that Montenegrin Jovetic (25) would be happy to work with Liverpool boss Rodgers, even though he is wanted in Italy by Champions League finalists Juventus and also Inter Milan. — The Daily Express.
