Liberation war hero Warrant Officer Class Two Isaac Ndingadini was on Tuesday buried at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre at Warren Hills.
The late Ndingadini, whose Chimurenga name was Zacks Manatsa Hondo, died on Saturday at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
He was an environmental health technician in the Zimbabwe National Army.

Addressing mourners, Minister of State for Harare Province Cde Miriam Chikukwa said the late Ndingadini had left a gap that would be difficult to fill.

“To Isaac’s relatives, thank you for the son that you gave us. He worked with us and fought a good fight. To his wife and children, I say such is the way of life for the Lord has the final say as the sun set for each one of us,” she said.

Born on January 1, 1960 in Chipinge, Ndingadini went to Musikavanhu Primary School in 1974. He joined the liberation struggle in 1977 in Mozambique where he received military training.

During the liberation struggle, he worked as a medic in Musikavanhu Sector in Chipinge until independence. On June 6, 1981 he was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army at Imbizo Barracks as a private and after integration, he was posted to the then 26 Infantry Battalion in Mt Darwin.

He later did his secondary education at Presidential Guards Education Company in 2006.

During his time of service he attended courses such as Health Assistant Class 3 to 1 at Army Headquarters, Occupational Health Safety, Commercial Refrigeration, a National Diploma in Environmental Health Technician and General Drill in 2009.

Cde Ndingadini rose through the ranks of Corporal on March 1, 1981, Sergeant in 1994, Staff Sergeant in 2001 and Warrant Officer Class 2 in 2004, a rank he held until the time of his death.

Through his loyalty and integrity, he was awarded the Independence Medal, Liberation Medal, 10 years service medal, long and exemplary 15 years medal and Mozambique and DRC Campaign Medals.

He is survived by wife Winnie and four children — Farai, Fadzai, Bright and Tatenda.
