Prom season and leavers’ parties are underway as the Advanced and Ordinary Level students have finished their final days at school. For your parents, prom night usually included a dinner followed by a dance at school. The entire event lasted no longer than one night.

On prom night, the girls spend hours getting dressed together. The guys hang out a while, and then get dressed at the last minute. Formal dress is still in, with the girls wearing gowns, designer dresses and the boys wearing tuxedos.

For the elite schools, even the ghetto schools can now afford, spending the night with a rented limousine is perhaps the most popular tradition, whether individually or as a group.

Did you know that boys are expected to cover the dinner expenses, although the tradition is no longer practised. In the last decade, some schools are renting ballrooms for the prom, and teenagers are increasingly renting hotel rooms for the weekend.

A recent trend has seen groups of formally dressed teens descending on local bowling alleys before prom. From the moment you start getting ready until the end of prom night, a lot of things will happen. You will likely have much excitement and high expectations.

Everyone wants to have a good time and knowing what to expect will make your dream prom a reality.

A survey conducted by CLS revealed that local teenagers are separating prom night and leavers party basing on their background.

“Prom night is a formal occasion and most people will be dressed up for the entire evening. Guys typically wear tuxedos, while girls choose formal prom dresses. Many girls will also have their hair, nails, and makeup done professionally. Getting ready for prom and traveling to the dance are some of the highlights of the night. With a little preparation you’ll be ready for a prom to remember. I think prom is for the elite while leavers is for the ghetto because normally there is no headache on leavers on what to wear or eat but it can be just a dance with no dinner,” said Tatenda Lanks (17) from Borrowdale.

CLS Quick tips on

Prom/Leaver’s Night

If You’re a Girl

Make sure you’re ready when your friend or date arrives. Your hair and makeup should be complete and you should be prepared to walk out the door.

There is nothing worse than leaving your date alone with your parents in the living room. This can lead to awkward conversation and a great deal of nervousness. Let your parents answer the door, but make sure you’re ready to get going.

If You’re a Guy

Figure out your transportation to pick up your date and let her know what time to expect you. Many people ride in a limousine to prom, which adds to the air of excitement.

If your dance does not provide dinner or if you want to go eat somewhere, make sure the limo driver will take you to a restaurant and factor in the time for eating. You don’t want to feel rushed or miss too much of the dance.

Mind you this is a borrowed phenomenon henceforth with many teenagers moving with times, there is no need to run away from it but assistance might be needed. Have a wonderful prom or leavers party and may the fun begin.
