President Mugabe this morning held a send-off ceremony for 50 Presidential Scholarship beneficiaries who are going to study at Ocean University in China.

The scholarship is funded to the tune of US$1.8 million by a Chinese Company, Hengshun Zhongsheng Group.  Speaking at the ceremony, President Mugabe expressed gratitude to Zimbabwe’s all weather friends, The People’s Republic of China and the funding company, for repeatedly extending this support.

He implored the students to go and learn, stressing that a university is a place of study and nothing else.

“Now, you are going to learn. University is not a place where students play or play on the internet using their phones. No. This is a place where you go to study seriously.  After three to four years, we want to say well done,” said President Mugabe.

The ceremony was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Huang Ping and the Executive Director of the Presidential Scholarship, Information, Media and Broadcasting Services minister Dr Christopher Mushohwe and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Simbarashe Mumbengegwi. – Simiso Mlevu
