LATEST: Marange-Zimunya Community Share Ownership Trust under fire

Trustees of Zimunya-Marange Community Share Ownership Trust consult outside the House after they had been briefly booted out for what the committee felt was a deliberate ploy to conceal important information. They were later called back-Pic by Lloyd Gumbo

Members of Parliament today grilled trustees of the Marange-Zimunya Community Share Ownership Trust over use of funds in the scheme.
About US$400 000 was disbursed by Mbada Diamonds and Marange Resources towards the scheme in June last year.

Trustee chairperson Chief Marange, secretary to the trust Chief Zimunya, Mr Shepherd Chinaka and other members appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment chaired by Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Cde Justice Wadyajena (Zanu-PF).

Legislators expressed dismay over how the trust had already spent US$45 000 in seven months when no empowerment project had been undertaken on the ground.

They also raised concern with how the board continued to operate when it was not fully constituted.

Trustees said they spent over US$17 000 on board fees, about US$14, 500 on travelling and subsistence and about US$13 000 on training.

If i was leading a team of people with $400 000 to spend on a project, I would have a lot more documents with me, unless they had left them inside after being booted.

How come these members are only men? Maybe if they had a female among them things could have been better. Behind every successful man there is a,,, (you guessed it).

400 000 is a lot of money. NGOs make use of this money to change lives of over 5000 vulnerable poor. I smell a rat. how is the Marange community being involved in the selection of the projects. The best way to go is to have partnership with NGO who know how to work with grassroots structures so that mari zhinji haiendi kuma allowances for staff

A Chief who should have been guardians of morality is also in this but that is no surprise because ever since they were firmly in the pay of ZANU PF they have totally abandoned their “children”. That is why just a few weeks ago they were mooting a hut tax in order to continually fund the lifestyle they have become used to.

If the chief is rotten, how can the subjects be straight?
