Jailed RMG Independent End Time Message leader Robert Martin Gumbura’s two security guards were on Monday acquitted on charges of barring a police officer from entering his house while conducting investigations.
Simbarashe Musiyiwa and Tendai Mandevani both aged 35 were facing charged for obstructing the course of justice after allegedly hindering a police officer investigating Gumbura’s rape cases to enter the house.
Harare magistrate Ms Victoria Mashamba cleared the pair after the State failed to prove a prima facie case against them.
“The evidence before the court is not sufficient to secure a conviction, therefore the accused are found not guilty and acquitted,” she said.
Prosecutor Mr Nyikadzino Machingura alleged that on October 12 last year, a police officer identified as Edward Muterere who was on duty went to Gumbura’s house at number 6 Helena Close in Marlborough in Harare with the intention of arresting Gumbura on rape charges.
He identified himself on arrival at the house but the pair who were manning the gate still denied him entry and he failed to execute his duties.
They allegedly locked the gate and barred the police officer from entering the yard.
