President Mugabe is among African leaders attending the inaugural African Economic Platform that opened here this morning.

The meeting, which seeks to promote continental economic integration, was officially opened by the African Union Commission chairperson Mr Moussa Faki Mahamat.

Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and his Industry and Commerce counterpart Mike Bimha, who are accompanying the President, also attended the opening session of the summit.

It must be hot in there and the speeches are quite long. If it was me, I would probably remove my jacket and tie and pray to God I don’t fall asleep, especially in front of the cameras.

  • Clueless

Even Mauritius news media don’t seem to care about covering this AEP Summit. Mind you this small island nation has a GDP of $23 billion for a population of 1,3 million, 20 times the GDP per Capita (PPP) of Zimbabwe, perhaps they don’t need any economic lessons from the rest of Africa?
Apart from President Mugabe, only Namibian Prime Minister Dr Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa are reported to have arrived, the rest are the usual crowd of delegated Foreign Secretaries, Ministers, Deputies and Business leaders.

You should be proud that our President, Africa’s greatest statesman and longest serving Head of State, if fit enough to travel to these summits. If other Heads of State don’t, that is their countries’ shame, that is their loss.
