CAPS United assistant coach Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi expects an explosive battle at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday when they take on a Highlanders side that suffered a setback in a mid-week match against Triangle.

Bosso were held to a goalless draw by a plucky Triangle at Barbourfields.

The CAPS United camp feel the stalemate at Barbourfields will spur Bosso and they will come out guns blazing.

Addressing a press briefing yesterday Kwashi, who was in the company of fitness coach Majaha Ndlovu and midfielder Kudzanai Nyamupfukudza, said they are not reading much into Highlanders mid-week performance.

“What I know is that the Highlanders which you saw playing against Triangle would be different from the Highlanders we will face on Sunday.

“They would be up for it. They would be hungrier. They would be pressing more, giving more than they gave yesterday (Wednesday) so that in itself is a motivation to us.

“We know they are out to kill us. It is war,” said Kwashi.

The former CAPS United winger says he knows that a lot is at stake in the reverse tie after the clash two weeks ago ended in agony when veteran striker Leonard Tsipa saw red and the team’s game plan was affected.

“Obviously, we want to start on a good footing and do better than we did in the last encounter.

“We are going to give our best and work hard.

“We remain humble and patient as well because success is a process, it’s not a one day thing. Right now we are in the process and hope to give our best come Sunday.

“Each game is different, but at the end of the day people always aim for positive results.

“Obviously, we are at home, we are expected to come out and give good performances, expected to come out and work hard and get a win, but sometimes in life things don’t necessarily come out that way.

“We keep praying hard to God because without God we will not achieve anything. So first we put God ahead of everything else,” said Kwashi.

He added that the absence of Highlanders ace Bruce Kangwa will not aid them in Sunday’s game.

“It is not an advantage. They have 30 registered players, they have Ralph (Matema) who can score goals, Prince Dube can score goals, they are a good team with a good coach and a good history.

“I don’t think Bruce’s absence will affect them, it will actually motivate them to do better.”

Kwashi says they will miss Tsipa’s influence.

“He has been brilliant for us, our top scorer so far, yes we will miss him, his experience, his leadership on the field of play, he brings a lot to the team,” said Kwashi.

“But it is an opportunity for someone else as well to get a breakthrough.

“I remember I got a break through when Alois Bunjira was injured, so it is an opportunity for someone else to take the shirt and do wonders and make a name for himself.”
