Sungura musicians Alick Macheso and Nicholas Zakaria’s yesteryear hits rocked the music industry and their group Khiama Boys became a household name.

Since their split in 1997, music fans have cherished the old hits and every time they reunite for shows, the musicians rekindle memories.

It was the same case at Ice and Fire Pamuzinda last Friday when they shared the stage.

Though the promise to give fans a duet still hangs in the balance, they gave their fans the best.

Zakaria was the first to take the stage and the musician gave the best with songs from his albums mesmerising fans. He played songs like “Mazano”, “Tsamba”, “Muzukuru Wangu” and “Pan’ono Pan’ono” among others. He surprised many when he changed his reggae song “Samalani” into a mixture of renditions of other musicians’ songs.

It was exactly 11:43pm when he played his popular “Ida Anokuda” song that triggered Macheso to join him on stage.

Macheso played the bass guitar before most of his band members including drummer Richard Chokumanyara and guitarist Tafirenyika Nyamunda also came on stage.

Nyamunda worked with Zakaria before joining Macheso and the guitarist is widely believed to be the subject of Zakaria’s “Tafi iwe usandishungurudze” line on the song “Mazano”.

Macheso and Zakaria took fans down memory lane to their heyday at Khiama Boys when they played two songs “Mabvi neMagokora” and “Tisambotsvinyirana”.

As if that was not enough, they played an impromptu song that left fans convinced that they are still a force to reckon with.

Macheso took the stage and the musician performed his popular songs such as “Madhawu”, “Chimoko” and “Tafadzwa” among others.

During the songs dancers from the two groups took time to show their skills.

Show promoter Josh Hozheri said it was a good gig that had a good attendance despite being arranged on short notice.
