Zanu-PF Mashonaland East provincial chairman Cde Ray Kaukonde is the main funder of factionalism in the party and is deceitful by wearing a fake smile, the First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe said yesterday.
Speaking at her “Meet the People Tour” at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera, the First Lady said Cde Kaukonde was denying that factionalism existed in Mashonaland East when he knew that it did.
“Nokuti uyuka uyu ndiri kumutaurira pachena ndiye anoshandiswa panyaya dze factionalism pano apa,” she said.
“Anotsvaga ukama nemunhu arikuita zvefactionalism uyu. Ihama yangu ini kwete yake munhu arikuita factionalism. Saka nhasi ndauya pano kuzotora hama yangu. Nekuti ndakambokuudza kakawanda pachena kuti Kaukonde kusina amai hakuendwe. Ehee zvakaipei kutaurirana chokwadi?”
Amai Mugabe said Cde Kaukonde was good at pretending when he was actively involved in factionalism and using his money to fan the practice.
She said she almost punched Cde Kaukonde in 2008 over his use of money to fund those involved in factions.
“Kaukonde uyu ndakambomudeedza 2008,” she said.
“I almost punched him, Kaukonde. Ndamuudza kuti Kaukonde nyaya yefactionalism must stop forthwith nekuti the moment of reckoning iri around the corner. Munozivaka munhu anokuda anokutaurira chokwadi. Ndinokuda Kaukonde iwewe. Taimbo wirirana sitereki chakakupinda chii?”
Cde Kaukonde worsened his situation when he refused to publicly reconcile with the First Lady like what some provincial leaders in Harare did last week in what is now being referred to as a “mini Unity Accord”.
“Urikuda kuti tiite imwe mini Unity Accord here,” she said. “Aah, arikuramba Unity Accord, okay gara ipapo. Zvakaitika kuHarare asi hauverengi mapepa kana kuti haugoni kuverenga?”
Amai Mugabe said Cde Kaukonde knew very well that money was exchanging hands in funding factionalism.
She said Cde Kaukonde was in the habit of badmouthing President Mugabe and her in their absence.
“Munoziva, iye zvino vanoti mauya mai, vachinyemwerera, vachinyemwerera mazino akanaka,” she said. “Nyemwerera tione. Asi it’s a fake smile. It’s a fake smile. I fake iyi ndiri kutokutaurirai.
“Kungotendeuka so: ‘haa kamukadzi ka Mugabe kabenzi. KaMugabe kachembera’. Iyeyu! Aiwa munhu ngaaudzve ngaarege kunyepa because he is the chairman of the province.”
Amai Mugabe said President Mugabe is on record imploring the party’s provincial chairmen not to abuse their positions.
She said women in Mashonaland East told her that there was no factionalism in the province because they were afraid of being denied money by Cde Kaukonde if they told the truth.
“Nekuti Kaukonde munhu we mari, saka anenge achipa mari madzimai,” she said. “Pandasvika kuno uku ndikati madzimai hakuna factionalism here hanzi hakuna, nekuti vanenge vachitya boss kuti haazovapi mari.
“Aah kakabataka aka (Cde Kaukonde). Kana madzimai kane hundred. Hatidi zvakadaro vaKaukonde ngazvipere. Ndiri kudaro nekuti uri mwana we murume wangu iwe. Kuti uve zvauri iwewe, kuti ugowana chigaro, waitaura iwe kuti “baba kuti ndivezvandiri, ndive nema business ndimi baba”. Wakazochinja riiini. Aiwa stop it, stop it.”
Amai Mugabe said Cde Kaukonde was also at the forefront of criticising President Mugabe.
“Zvese zvekuswera kuti vaMugabe vazochembera, ndakati even imi vana Kaukonde vachiri kumhanya mukamiswa apo naMugabe kuti chitaurai, tomboona kuti achembera ndiwe here Kaukonde kana kuti ndivaMugabe,” she said to applause from the crowd.
