TP MAZEMBE owner Moise Katumbi is expected in Harare today from South Africa, ending a lengthy absence from their company which has stretched for about a year, when the five-time African champions take on CAPS United tomorrow.

The match, though, has been overshadowed by controversy over referees appointed to handle the tie.

Katumbi hasn’t watched his team play for about a year now as he has been away from home for one reason or another.

“Throughout all the countries he frequents, president Moise Katumbi wears the TPM on his heart. So he doesn’t have a second’s hesitation when it comes to talking about his club. And to call his supporters to support him,’’ the club said on their official Facebook page.

“Presently in South Africa where he is organising a supply of maize meal for the benefit of the population of Katanga, Mazembe’s president stopped for a few minutes in front of the camera and called to all Congolese in Zimbabwe and neighbouring countries South Africa and Zambia to travel to the . . . National Sports Stadium in Harare this Sunday to lead the Crows to qualify in the Champions League.’’

One of the continent’s richest football club, with a budget in excess of $10 million a year, TP Mazembe touched down at Harare International Airport shortly after 3pm on a chartered plane that had 100 people who included players and 50 fans.

“We are definitely going to beat CAPS United. They were lucky to salvage a draw at our backyard and we are just here to turn the tables. We are very confident and we believe that CAPS United are a small team.

“We did not come here to lose against them, but we came all the way to progress to the last 16 because we believe we are the cream of African football and our place is the group stages,” said Mohamed Kamwanga, the club vice president.

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Tonderai Ndiraya and his captain Partson Jaure, whose team will be in action today at the same venue, wished their countrymen all the luck.

“CAPS United did themselves a very big favour by holding TP Mazembe, they have an advantage, but they need to forget about the result last weekend and focus on their performance tomorrow.

“They must not relax, but they must put more effort to get a positive result. TP Mazembe will come with all guns blazing and they know how to handle games of that magnitude.

“CAPS should fight and they must give us the result.”
