MADRID. — Karim Benzema has committed his future to Real Madrid by signing a new four-year deal. The French forward extended his stay at La Liga club until June 30 2021.

Vice-captain Marcelo, Isco and Dani Carvajal have all extended their deals to remain until 2022 over the past week with Real rewarding key members of the squad.

The 29-year-old joined Madrid from Lyon for £25m in 2009 and has gone to help the team win 14 trophies. His deal was set to run out in 2019 but his contract extension means he will still be at the Bernabeu for his 33rd birthday.

Some reports in Spain during the summer had linked Benzema with a potential move to Arsenal. Benzema insisted recently that he had no intention of leaving the reigning Champions League defending champions.

He said: “When you’re at a club and you’re a first-team regular, you don’t need to look elsewhere – especially when you’re at a club like Real Madrid. “I think we’re in one of Real Madrid’s best periods ever, it’s as simple as that. The team is really very strong.” Playing alongside Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronald, Benzema has become part of Real’s attacking forced called “BBC”. — Sky Sports.
