JJ, Butterphly warm up to BBA

I recently bumped into Munyaradzi Chidzonga, the ex-Big Brother star who inspired several other individuals from different countries not only to participate in the reality series but also to represent their countries well.

Now a family man and married to soulful diva Adiona Maboreke, Munya who featured in the popular feature film “Lobola” is always jovial and still involved in film making.

There is no doubt, Munya is one of the finest housemates that Zimbabwe produced since the launch of the Big Brother Africa phenomenon.

Just recently on Big Brother Hotshots, which is the current season, some housemates admitted to being inspired by Munya and how he did his country proud.

Of interest was how the Hotshots appreciated President Mugabe for honouring Munya for his excellent delivery during his stay on the show.

For those who might not know, Munya narrowly missed the grand prize of US$300 000 to Nigeria’s Uti Nwachukwu by a single country vote during the Big Brother All Star season finale. However, the loss was not just his loss but everyone’s. The entire nation was hurt and some business people raised money which was then handed over to Munya by President Mugabe. So when yours truly asked Munya about his thoughts on Big Brother Hotshots particularly our Zimbabwean housemates Butterphly and JJ he had kinds words for them. Zimbabwean housemates Butterphly and JJ are doing well and they need our support. Munya said the two housemates needed to survive the first two to three evictions for them to build a firm base for themselves. So far there have been two evictions of which both Butterphly and JJ survived. In fact, JJ has been nominated for three consecutive weeks.

The first one was when Big Brother announced that all the housemates were up for eviction and then week two in which JJ was among the most nominated housemates.

JJ however, got five country votes making him a strong contender and a firm favourite. Although the other housemates describe JJ as a “know-it-all” character, the truth of the matter is that Africa knows JJ better and what the other housemates think of him does not matter because he is well spoken and intelligent. What the other housemates are not talking about is that they know JJ is a serious contender. The Zimbabwean lad knows when to be loud and when to be quiet. So when you see the likes of Idris, Sheillah, Tayo and Luis nominate JJ it is not that they have anything against him but it is because they fear competition.

And basing on that we are likely to see JJ being put up for eviction every week because the other housemates see him as competition and that is the only reason to nominate him.

Now that JJ has proved that he can survive getting his neck on the chopping board, we are glad, but we still need to see how Butterphly will fair.

The radio presenter was off the hook after her team won the Extravaganza challenge and were not legible for nomination. This is one of the twists that Big Brother has introduced this season whereby housemates are divided into two teams during weekly tasks. The losing team will then make the list for nominees up for eviction during that week. Initially Butterphly failed to impress the majority of fans but however, she appears to have warmed up and gained confidence and may just last the course. Butterphly has now turned out to be well spoken and she does not hog the spotlight all the time. Often she exudes cool confidence and is a likeable character as seen during her diary session with Biggie.

Our prayer is that JJ and Butterphly do not end on the same team so that the Zimbabwean vote is not divided into two. And if they should be put on the same team the only option is for that team to win so that they are not put on the nomination list.

Until next week remember this is television and it is real.
