Contemporary musician Jean Masters will tomorrow launch her third album, in a move that is expected to boost her musical career. Several local musicians among them Trevor Dongo, Rute Mbangwa, Sasha Wanai, Norman Masamba and the Good Fellaz will perform at the album launch to be held at Jazz 24/7 in the capital.Titled “Hupenyu Makata”, the album contains eight tracks laden with social messages and the love trajectory.

In an interview the crooner said she was optimistic that the album would be well received by her fans that had been starved of new musical projects from her.

“I took my time in compiling and working on this project, which will immediately be followed by a video.

“I believe I have matured in music and that should show through all the projects I am working on,” she confidently revealed.

Jean added that save for a few additions, she maintained her original flair that is distinct in her previous works to ensure that her fans would not completely lose out on the beat, they had grown accustomed to.

She urged her fans to come in their numbers and support the brand.

From a novice who started off as a mere backing vocalist for the late musician, Joe Masters, Jean’s profile has been on a pendulum, despite having proved to be competent judging by her live performances.

Born in Harare in 1988, Jean first tried her hand in music four years ago, with the JM Seasons Band, a move that was initially met with resistance by her parents.

However, her persistence finally paid off, after her parents allowed her to practise with the band, having realised her passion for music.

Barely a year after trying her luck in music, she went on stage during the band’s many tours and fans immediately took a liking to her suave voice.

With two albums to her name, Jean has had her fair of success and collaborated with Oliver Mtukudzi on the song “Misi Haifanane” and Suluman Chimbetu on “Chipo Changu” from her first album, “Africa”.

Her versatility in both instruments and lyrics is aptly captured in the song, “Thomson”, which she collaborated with Jah Prayzah from her debut album.

Jean started off as an urban groover in 2007, assisted by the likes of Culture T and DJ Berry.
