Partson Jaure

HARARE giants Dynamos officially bade farewell to defender Partson Jaure yesterday after the Zimbabwe international finally completed his move to South Africa’s University of Pretoria.
Jaure is expected to join his new teammates this week and will be welcomed by former teammates at Dynamos, Washington Arubi and midfielder Denver Mukamba.
Mukamba is also joining the side on a season’s loan from Bidvest Wits.

Dynamos secretary-general Webster Chikengezha yesterday said they were hoping to fill the void created by Jaure’s departure after roping in unheralded Elisha Muroiwa from Northern Region Division One side, Twalumba.

“It’s done and dusted as far as the negotiations for Jaure are confirmed. He is now a University of Pretoria player and we wish him well in his career.
“He is a good player whom we are all going to miss but as a club we cannot stand in the way of anyone if he decides to move on with his career elsewhere.

“Hopefully, we are going to see other players in the squad getting the chance to prove themselves. It’s almost a similar situation when Washington Arubi went to join the same club and we had George (Chigova) coming up, where is he now?

“So we are hoping to see others grabbing that opportunity. We have also brought in another defender to beef up the department and I am sure he will settle in well,” said Chikengezha.

AmaTuks coach Steve Barker revealed he has been monitoring the defender following his impressive show at the recent CHAN tournament where he was named among the best 11 players of the tournament. Jaure is set to replace Bafana Bafana defender, Buhle Mkhwanazi, who joined Bidvest Wits last week.

AmaTuks are excited by their new signing and they also welcomed him on their Twitter account with a short message:
“We welcome Partson Jaure, Zimbabwean National Team captain to AmaTuks. Great addition to the defence.”

His departure is likely to leave a void in the backline. Jaure, who had formed a good understanding with Themba Ndlovu to make the DeMbare defence one of the best in the league campaign so far, was not available for the Glamour Boys’ NetOne OneWallet quarter-final tie against old rivals CAPS United at the weekend as he was sorting out paperwork.

DeMbare had to make quick plans to get Augustine Mbara in the line-up after agreeing to a new one-year deal with the player last week. They had hoped to have finalised their negotiations with Muroiwa in time for the Derby but the talks dragged longer than expected.

However, Mbara, who is naturally at home in the left-back position, did his best to compliment Themba Ndlovu at the heart of defence to shut out their opponents.
The tournament kicked off with upsets when three seeded teams — FC Platinum, Harare City and Highlanders — fell by the wayside after losing their matches over the weekend. Callisto Pasuwa said he would have preferred to face big teams like Highlanders and CAPS United in the last four of the tournament.

“Remember we are one of those victims of these so-called small teams. It’s like we are playing Highlanders also. We have to play first and then talk afterwards,” said Pasuwa.

Eight top teams from last season are taking part in the tournament, sponsored to the tune of US$500 000 by NetOne.
Triangle were the first to book their place when they edged Harare City 7-6 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time, before Chicken Inn upstaged hosts FC Platinum in the second match of a double header at Mandava on Friday.

Then one of the favourites Highlanders crashed out at the hands of city rivals How Mine on Saturday when they went down 3-4 on penalties in the wake of a 1-1 stalemate. Rodreck Mutuma made the difference on Sunday when he scored the solitary goal in the 79th minute.

CAPS United coach Taurai Mangwiro said he had a feeling his team was well positioned to claim victory, to break the dominance by their opponents in the last five years.  “We had that feeling (that CAPS United would win). You could see the manner we took the game to them, but such is football,” said Mangwiro.

“It’s a knockout tournament, just that one lapse and we are out of the tournament. But we are not going to despair.
“We will draw a lot of encouragement from that (defeat), taking them on again next week, let’s hope for the best. We shouldn’t despair.”
