Winky D and Jah Prayzah will combine forces at Junction 24 on Sunday at a family show that kick-starts festive season gigs at the venue. It will be first time for Winky D to perform at the venue that has become synonymous with family outing by artistes from other genres that appeal across age groups. Junction 24 has hosted sungura, rhumba, urban grooves, reggae, dancehall and gospel artistes in previous family shows.

Winky D and Jah Prayzah have previously staged memorable combined acts at various venues in the capital.

Sunday’s show will once again bring together the two popular artistes that have made inroads in their different genres.

Winky D will have a chance to prove that he is still the king of local dancehall music despite facing competition from various other upcoming stars.

The Ninja president, as Winky D is popularly known, has been on top of his game for many years and sailed through waves that have rippled through the industry and swept away one-hit-wonders in the genre.

Winky D has stood his ground even against foreign acts that have performed in the country. He is likely to belt out hits like “Musarova Bigman” and “Pazvikona” among others.

Jah Prayzah, smarting from a recent admission that he copied a song from a Ghanaian musician, will have to save his face through the live performance.

Soja Rinosvika Kure, as Jah Prayzah is popularly known, will lead his Third Generation band in another mission that is likely to show their stage prowess.

The band’s military drills have been outstanding in past performances and the group is likely to steer the Junction 24 festive season programme in an emphatic way.

Junction 24 director Tavepi Madzingira said they are anticipating a busy festive season and Sunday’s show will set the pace for family events at the venue.

“We know that Winky D is popular among the youths and Jah Prayzah attracts mature crowds. Bringing the two together means that we will be cutting across music tastes of different ages and that is the integral component of a family show.

“We know we will have a busy season and we are targeting families in most of our programmes,” said Madzingira.
