VETERAN sports journalist Jabes Lefani, a long-time correspondent for The Herald in Kadoma, has died.

Lefani (52) is said to have committed suicide yesterday morning in Kadoma.

His closest friend, Emmanuel Mavata, said the community was still in shock following the tragedy.

“Lefani died after committing suicide. He first tried to throw himself into a moving truck but the driver avoided him. He then threw himself onto a bus that was heading for Bulawayo

“His head was crushed and when police arrived at the scene they took his body to Kadoma General Hospital Mortuary,” said Mavata.

The incident happened along the Harare/Bulawayo highway.

Lefani is survived by his wife and two children, a girl Valentine (7) and boy Courage (5)

Lefani started writing for The North Midlands Gazette in 1987.

He then joined The Herald in 1988, as a football correspondent covering the Kadoma area, and did some updates for ZBC and Star FM. He was also the ZUJ president for Mashonaland West.

Mourners are gathered at 37 Chanatsira Street in Rimuka, Kadoma.

Burial arrangements were still to be finalised.
