It’s Zim dancehall vs urban grooves at Summer Slam

SEH CALAZ1Entertainment Reporter
The Rainbow Towers’ Gardens are expected to explode tomorrow when Zim dancehall artistes clash with urban groovers as the curtain comes down on the Harare Agricultural Show.
Traditionally the last day of the Harare Agricultural Show is a hive of activity but what matters most is to be where the action is.

The gig which starts at midday continues until late hours of the morning with  the highlights being live performances by Zim dancehall chanters in the likes of Shinsoman, Seh Calaz, Soul Jah Love and Qonfused.

Born Soul Musaka, Soul Jah Love aka “Chibaba Chacho”  has achieved a lot ever since his huge splash on the mainstream music scene.
Backed by the Conquering Family alongside his sweetheart Bounty Lisa and Ipah Yout, the “Hauite Hauite” singer makes no apology for being rated as one of the best in the genre.

Almost always he delivers the best vocals on any riddim and his lyrical prowess knows no boundaries. Most of his hit songs are imaginative pieces of art which partly addresses his shortcomings during his childhood.

Some of the songs that  make you stop and think include “Handichabatika”, “Mwari Ndovatenda”, “Zimbabwe” and “Ndini Uya Uya”, in which he narrates his life in the streets, how he was condemned and dejected as a child. These stories about his life make you believe that there is God above.

And more often than not, he gives thanks to the Almighty Lord for turning his life for the better through the gift of music.

Of course, he brags about the talent but he doesn’t say that he is the greatest but he gives all the glory to God.  The coming in of Soul Jah Love bears testimony to the fact that Zim-dancehall is here to stay regardless of the fact that critics describe it as bubble gum music.

Seh Calaz of the “Mabhanditi” fame is coming in a big way although his penchant for controversy is his undoing. He has to learn a thing or two about humility.

And on urban grooves front there are a lot of surprises including the return of ExQ aka Musalala to stage.

Born Enock Munhenga, ExQ is one of the best rappers around whose songs celebrate love and being loved.

Another rappers delight on the bill is MMT which rose to fame with the release of their hit song “Zvidhori”.

Soulful singer Trevor Dongo is expected to spice up the show with his mellow love grooves.

The Summer Slam 2014 would not be complete without the popular acts such as Swag Bakers, Platinum Entertainment, who are known in Harare for hosting big parties in the capital.

To make sure that the party continues the DJs on rotation Ash Stylez, Nivek, Judgment Yard, Templeman and Garry B as well as  Team Cute, will battle it out on the turntables.

Added to the fun will be stand-out performances from the hugely popular “So You Think You  can Dance” competition which will see several dance groups taking part.
