As the countdown for Africa’s most watched reality show begins, Big Brother Africa organisers will today start revealing housemates for this year’s edition.
Dubbed “Hotshots” the show was moved to October 5 after a fire gutted the house three weeks ago.

Zimbabweans have been speculating on who could be going to the show this year and they will know the name anytime from today.

According to show organisers, the new glamorous house is in the process of being designed and fitted with cutting edge camera equipment and broadcast technology that makes the show unique in its format.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager for MultiChoice Zimbabwe confirmed the developments.

“In a bold and ground-breaking move, M-Net and series producers Endemol SA will be delivering a world first by unveiling the names of the participating housemates live on the official Big Brother website which was launched yesterday (Tuesday) at 2pm,” she said.

“Three Big Brother housemates will be introduced on a daily basis starting September 18 (today). This will be followed by regular updates on social media, so Zimbabweans can look out for our country representative.”

M-Net Africa Regional Director (West Africa) Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu said the show will go on as planned.

“We are breaking new ground and the website and social media are the perfect platforms to engage with the fans in real-time,” said Mba-Uzoukwu.

“The show will go on and fans and housemates are in for some riveting television, coupled with all the drama, intrigue and heart-stopping twists that have become part of the show.”

Likewise Big Brother (“Biggie”) is full of tricks and keeps many wondering how the new house will look like and how many housemates per country will be in the show.

Last year saw Hakeem Mandaza and Pokello Nare representing Zimbabwe at the Big Brother Africa – The Chase, with the vivacious and stylish socialite Pokello managing to survive several nominations.

Again critics continue to ask who rules the roost in Zimbabwe when it comes to being a housemate. Do male members do better than female?

One social media analyst, Nomathemba Ndebele, said she was waiting for the show to start and Zimbabweans should stand as one when it comes voting.

“Good to hear that the show is back. We are now tired of some malicious rumours spreading on Facebook on who is going and how the house got burnt and all. It is a good thing to rely on the organisers. The show brings people together, if they fully understand it. We keep fingers crossed on who is this year’s housemate and how they will represent us,” she said.

After all the speculation on who is going, with some reports mentioning prominent names, Zimbabweans await their surprise.
